About
I chose the name Accept Yourself Therapy because acceptance is an important theme in the work of therapy. And my family wouldn’t let me choose End of the World Therapy as a name.
I am a humanist and existential mental health counselor in Providence, RI. I offer both brief and long-term therapy for adolescents, young adults, and adults of all ages. I works with individuals and couples, both in-person and online. I am an ally for LGBTQ+ communities. I have worked with clients experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, broken relationships, identity explorations, family rejection, intersectionality, trauma past and present, career crises, grief and loss, and life transitions.
I use a person-centered approach to therapy, listening without judgement to where each client is and where they want to be. I choose therapeutic techniques best suited for each client and their situation, which may include cognitive-behavioral exercises, values-based explorations, meaning-making, and mindfulness. I am trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing (MI), couples counseling, trauma-informed care, and existentialism. My style is warm and connecting.
I am licensed as a mental health counselor in Rhode Island, license number MHC01954. Accept Yourself Therapy is my solo private practice.
Training
I received my master's of science degree in clinical mental health counseling from Johnson & Wales University. I have practiced therapy for four years, at group agencies in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. I also counseled young women recovering from trauma in a residential program, provided therapy to young children in an elementary school, and lived in a residential home for adults learning to live with mental illness. More than a few years ago, I received a BA in English from Umass/Boston and an MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) from George Mason University. I worked for a decode or two as a designer in software development at corporations big and small.
Approaches
I design my approach individually for each client. I will use techniques from CBT, ACT, MI, Gottman, Imago, Existential, Gestalt, and trauma-informed care methodologies as needed.
Inclusivity
Accept Yourself Therapy is a safe and welcoming place for all people. I am non-judgmental in my therapy work. It is important to me as a therapist and as a person to welcome all, including LGBTQ+ folks.
